3 Sanyo Region Fam Trip Report

Eight wholesale travel agents from Australia were invited to participate in a 6-day tour development and familiarisation trip to the Sanyo region from 2nd-8th October 2013. The itinerary included sightseeing spots already well-known amongst Australian tourists such as Hiroshima, with its historic Atomic Bomb Dome and Peace Memorial Park and Miyajima island famous for its Great red Torii (gate), as well as destinations off-the-beaten-track, exploring tourist gems in Okayama, Yamaguchi and Shimane prefectures.

In addition to visiting World Heritage sites and bustling cities, participants also enjoyed cultural experiences such as: a rickshaw ride through the old castle town of Hagi, a boat ride through the quaint town of Kurashiki and paper-doll making in Tsuwano. Some participants took the plunge and took a bath in an onsen (hot spring) during two nights spent at a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn). Throughout the trip participants were treated to a variety of Japanese cuisine from local specialties like Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake), anago-meshi (conger eel rice) to a full-course kaiseki banquet.

We received positive feedback on the trip and hope the agents will develop new itineraries featuring the destinations and activities experienced.
