Japan Shopping Festival 2016-2017 Winter Season

Japan Shopping Festival (JSF) 2016-2017 Winter , an event organised by the Japan Shopping Tourism Organization (JSTO) is on now until Tuesday, 28 February 2017.

Winter is an exciting time for shoppers in Japan with sales for Christmas and New Year’s. Many visitors to Japan look forward to shopping. For many, shopping isn’t just an act of buying physical products, but a way to experience the unique qualities of the Japanese people, a way to connect to goods and craftsmanship unique to local regions and a way to create enjoyable memories during your travel journey.

Main events

Period: Thursday, 1 December 2016 to Tuesday, 28 February 2017

  1. The “JSF Lucky Draw” Lottery will be held and 100 winners will win popular products from Japan.
  2. “Japan Shopping Coupon” tickets will be distributed for shoppers to receive great discounts.
  3. A shopping tourist station will be placed at Tokyo Tower (20 Jan – 28 Feb 2017).

Calendar of shopping events

1-25 December 2016

Christmas-related: Items available only for Christmas will be available for purchase and Christmas-related events will be held at commercial facilities throughout the country. Enjoy Christmas light-ups, events and pre-sales.

1-3 January 2017

New Year’s Sales: Some stores open from as early as 1st January. May shoppers looking to buy discounted merchandise such as fukubukuro (lucky gift bags) wait in long lines before store doors open. Some stores remain closed on 1-2 January.

Early and mid-January

Winter Sales: Some start their sales as soon as the new begins and others start midway through January. Products are discounted further as the sale progresses. On the first day of the sales, the stores are crowded with people.

End of January to early February

Lunar New Year Events: Mainly targeting guests visiting Japan from Greater China, special events will be held according to the spring season at commercial facilities and transportation companies.
